Sub-Zero 501F built-in all-freezer repair
The 501F is a 500 Series built-in all-freezer, usually paired with a refrigerator column in a kitchen wall. It has roll-out baskets, adjustable shelves and an automatic ice maker with a pull-out bucket. It is discontinued, and Sub-Zero’s compatibility guide points to the BI-36F as the closest modern match.
Age shows in the drain and the ice maker. When ice forms over the drain, meltwater collects under the bottom basket. A nonstop compressor can come from the gasket, the condenser or frost on the evaporator.
We check the drain, the gasket and the ice maker’s water path. A written price comes first, and repairs have a 30-day workmanship warranty. We also inspect the roll-out baskets and their tracks, since a basket that binds can hold the door open just enough to start frost.
Ice is most likely blocking the drain, so meltwater has nowhere to go. We clear the drain and look for the reason it iced up, usually a seal or defrost problem, before quoting anything.
The gasket, the condenser airflow or frost on the evaporator are the usual reasons. We check each in order and tell you the written price before we replace any part of the cooling system.
The water or the freeze is off. A tired filter, a restricted supply line or a weak freeze can all cause it. We test each step and report what we found with a clear price.
