On current Classic Series models with an internal ice maker, such as the CL3650UID or CL4250UID, 40-8-01 (shown as 40 8 01) reports excessive ice maker fill. The control has detected that more water went into the ice maker than a normal cycle allows. You may find ice fused into a solid block in the bin, frozen spill around the mold, cubes that are oversized or joined together, or water dripping into the freezer drawer.
1. Turn the ice maker off at the control. 2. Empty the bin and remove any fused ice block. 3. Look for frozen water around the mold and let it thaw with the door closed. 4. Check that the supply line behind the unit is not kinked. 5. Turn the ice maker back on and watch the next two harvests.
That is the classic sign of this code. Extra water spills over the mold and freezes the cubes together. Empty the bin, let the mold area thaw, and see whether normal cubes come back.
Yes. If the supply pressure is high or surges, more water passes through the valve in the same fill time. We measure pressure at the valve and can fit a regulator if needed.
Yes, cooling is not affected. Just keep the ice maker off until it is checked so water does not keep spilling into the freezer section.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
