Code 02 on the Sub-Zero 648PRO and 648PROG, the legacy PRO 48 models, means the evaporator thermistor in zone X has a problem with the sensor or its wiring. X is 1, 3 or 4 and shows which zone is affected. The evaporator sensor lets the control know when the coil needs to defrost. When it is unreliable, that zone may build heavy frost on its coil and gradually lose cooling. You might notice the zone running warmer or the fan sounding different.
1) Note the zone number shown with code 02. 2) Look through the shelving for heavy frost on the back panel of that zone. 3) Avoid using sharp tools to remove ice. 4) Keep the door closed and monitor the temperature. 5) Book a visit so we can check the sensor.
The evaporator sensor helps the control decide when to defrost. If the sensor or its wiring misbehaves, defrost may not happen correctly and frost builds on the coil.
No. Code 01 concerns the cabinet sensor that reads air temperature, while 02 concerns the evaporator sensor attached near the coil in the same zone.
Often one visit if the coil is not frozen solid. If it is, we may need to defrost first. We share a written price before starting.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
