What 10-7-01 means

Classic Built-In refrigerators with electronic control, the BI-36U/S and BI-36UFD/S for instance, show 10-7-01 when the ambient thermistor is shorted. This sensor reads the air in the room around the unit rather than inside it, and the board uses that number to adjust how it runs. With a shorted value the board discards the room reading. Food compartments often hold temperature normally, so the code on the display may be the only thing you notice.

Common causes of 10-7-01

  • A pinched ambient sensor wire near the grille area
  • Moisture or debris across the sensor plug
  • A shorted ambient thermistor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Vacuum dust from the front grille with a soft brush attachment. 2. Make sure the grille area is not blocked by rugs, toe-kick trim or stored items. 3. Confirm the cabinets are cooling normally with a thermometer. 4. Reset the breaker once and see whether 10-7-01 returns.

! Why to stop there
  • The ambient sensor is reached from behind the grille near powered wiring
  • A short can come from the harness, which needs a meter to trace
  • Food usually stays safe, so a planned visit beats guessing
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

10-7-0110-7-01 questions
What is an ambient thermistor?

It is a small sensor that reads room temperature around your Sub-Zero. The board uses it to adjust operation for a warm or cool kitchen. It does not measure the food sections directly.

Is my food at risk with 10-7-01?

Usually not. The refrigerator and freezer sensors still work, so cooling continues. Keep an eye on a thermometer for a day and book a visit at a convenient time.

Why replace a sensor if everything still cools?

The board runs best with all its readings. Leaving the short in place keeps the code on screen and can hide a new problem later. We give a written price first, and the repair is quick.
