What 15-9-66 means

On Classic Built-In units such as the BI-36U/S with a dispenser, 15-9-66 means the water valve selecting relay is stuck at the ice maker water position. This relay decides whether water flows to the ice maker or to the door dispenser. Stuck on the ice maker side, the dispenser cannot get water. You press the paddle and nothing comes out, while the ice maker may keep filling and producing ice normally.

Common causes of 15-9-66

  • A selecting relay stuck in the ice maker position
  • A board output that will not switch
  • A connection problem at the water valve
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the household water supply to the unit is on. 2. Check that the water filter is installed correctly. 3. Reset the breaker one time. 4. Try the dispenser again with a glass for ten seconds; if it is still dry, book a visit and mention 15-9-66.

! Why to stop there
  • The relay sits on the live control board
  • Water valve testing happens near both water and power
  • Replacing the valve will not help if the relay never switches
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

15-9-6615-9-66 questions
Why is ice being made but no water comes from the door?

With 15-9-66 the selecting relay is stuck on the ice maker side, so water only reaches the ice maker. The dispenser line never receives a signal.

How does this differ from 15-9-65?

They are mirror images. 65 is stuck at the dispenser position, so ice stops. 66 is stuck at the ice maker position, so the door dispenser goes dry.

What does the fix cost?

We test the relay and valve first, then give you a written price. In most cases it is a board-side repair completed in one visit.
