Seen on current Designer models such as the DET3050CI and DEC3050R, 40-2-87 is listed as Zone 2 no flow. The control expected to see flow in Zone 2 while it was cooling that zone and did not detect it, so it logged the condition rather than waiting for temperatures to slip. In daily use the zone may cool slowly, hold a few degrees above its setting, or show uneven cold spots, while other zones work normally.
1. Move items away from the vents at the back and sides of Zone 2. 2. Look for frost buildup on interior panels and mention it when you call. 3. Close the Zone 2 door or drawer firmly and check the gasket for gaps. 4. Leave the unit running and watch the zone temperature over the next day.
The control expected to see flow in Zone 2 during cooling and did not. Blocked vents or frost are the simple explanations; otherwise the parts that move air into the zone need testing.
If packaging or food was blocking the vents, clearing them may be enough and the code will not return. If it does return, we look deeper into the Zone 2 air path.
