On legacy 600 Series built-ins such as the 650/F and 700 Series models like the 736TCI, code 23 signals a defrost overheat together with no voltage feedback through the gray/white wire at defrost start. On the legacy 648PRO and 648PROG, the same number calls for checking the defrost wiring of zone X, where X is 1, 3 or 4. Defrost may end badly or not run, leaving frost and uneven temperatures.
1. Write down code 23 and the zone if one is shown. 2. Check for frost on the back wall and for unusual warmth in that section. 3. Cut power at the panel for roughly two minutes before restoring it. 4. Keep doors shut and monitor temperatures with a thermometer. 5. Book service if code 23 comes back.
On the 600 and 700 Series, 22 is missing feedback at defrost start, while 23 adds a defrost overheat on top of that. On the 648PRO both point to zone defrost wiring.
The control flags it so the condition does not continue unchecked. It is wise to limit how long the unit runs with repeated 23 codes and have the wiring tested soon.
We test the defrost wiring and feedback path, repair what we find and quote any parts in writing first. Our labor is backed by a 30-day warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
