Classic Wine Storage, formerly called Built-In, includes the BW-30 and BW-30/S, and these units show EC 06 when the upper evaporator thermistor reads open or shorted for 10 seconds or more, or keeps reporting inconsistent temperatures. That sensor watches the upper cooling coil. Undercounter UW-24 models use the same meaning. With the reading lost, the upper zone can overcool, warm up, or gather frost on its coil because defrost timing is off.
1. Check the upper zone for frost on the rear panel. 2. Make sure the upper door seals all the way around. 3. Keep bottles clear of the back wall. 4. Restart the unit at the breaker after a minute. 5. If EC 06 comes back, call us.
Yes. On both the BW-30 and the UW-24 it points to the upper evaporator thermistor. We test it the same way on either model. Only the cabinet size differs.
The upper evaporator sensor guides defrost. When it reads open or shorted, defrost can be mistimed and frost builds on the coil. Melting that frost alone will not stop it from coming back.
Often, yes. A sensor or plug repair is usually done in one visit, priced in writing before work and covered by our 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
