On legacy UC-24 undercounter models such as the UC-24R, UC-24BG and UC-24CI, code 50 means excessive refrigerator compressor run. The control counted a run period longer than normal and set the code because the cabinet is not reaching temperature as it should. You may find 50 on a 600 or 700 Series chart as well; for the undercounter, excessive run is the meaning. You may hear the unit running almost nonstop, find the cabinet slightly warm, or feel extra heat at the toe-kick grille.
1. Close the door and check the gasket for gaps. 2. Clear anything blocking the toe-kick grille. 3. Avoid loading a lot of warm items at once. 4. Give the unit a few hours to recover. 5. Reset power once at the breaker; if 50 returns, call us.
It can add to it, especially in an outdoor-style bar or a hot garage. Still, a blocked grille, poor door seal or heavy frost are more common, so check those first.
Not by itself. It only says the compressor ran too long. We check airflow, the condenser and defrost first, and look at the sealed system only if those pass.
Within a few days. Long runs waste energy and wear the compressor. We book a three-hour window and quote in writing before any repair. Bring the model number if you can.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
