Sub-Zero 511 Refrigerator with Freezer Drawer Repair
The 511 stacks a refrigerator over a roll-out freezer drawer instead of using a full-height freezer. Both compartments are adjusted from the controls on the back wall of the refrigerator, near the top, which surprises owners who look for them on the drawer.
As a 500 Series model that is no longer produced, its trouble spots follow the drawer design. Frost inside the freezer suggests humid air getting past a gasket, and a drawer that has drifted out of square on its slides will not close flush. We check both, along with the overnight-cold, afternoon-warm pattern common to the generation.
Parts can generally still be ordered, though legacy items take longer. Expect a written price before we start and a 30-day workmanship warranty after.
On the back wall of the refrigerator section, near the top. Both the refrigerator and freezer settings are there rather than on the freezer drawer.
After years of use the drawer can slip out of square on its slides, so it no longer meets the gasket evenly. We realign it and inspect the seal for damage.
Some is expected, but heavy buildup usually means humid air is leaking in, often through a worn gasket or an imperfectly closed drawer. We find the leak before addressing the frost.
