Sub-Zero 590 Refrigerator/Freezer with Dispenser Repair
Door closers on both the freezer and refrigerator doors are a signature of the 590, a 500 Series built-in with an automatic ice maker and a dispenser for ice and water. It is out of production, and its controls sit inside the refrigerator section, on the left side, rather than on an outside panel.
When a 590 misbehaves, begin at the doors. A door that stops pulling itself onto the gasket lets warm air in, and that can make the control reading and the real temperature disagree long before food spoils. We check closers, hinges, and seals together.
The dispenser is a different story. If water slows or stops, the supply line and fill valve are our first stops, because the refrigeration circuit is seldom the culprit. Parts can generally still be ordered, though legacy items take longer. A written price always comes first.
A door that no longer closes fully onto the gasket is a common reason, since warm air disturbs the actual cabinet temperature. We confirm with a thermometer before suspecting the sensor.
Inside the refrigerator section, on the left-hand side. You will not find them on an exterior panel, so open the refrigerator door to adjust the settings.
They help pull the freezer and refrigerator doors shut. When they wear, the doors can rest slightly open, and the gasket loses contact, which is why we inspect them during any cooling call.
