Electronic-control Classic Built-In models like the BI-36U/S use 10-R-02 for an unstable refrigerator evaporator thermistor. The sensor sits on the fresh-food cooling coil, and the board relies on it to time defrost there. An unstable signal hops between values, usually because of a weak connection affected by cold and moisture. Expect the code to appear now and then; over time the refrigerator side may collect frost on the rear panel and cool unevenly.
1. Note when 10-R-02 appears and whether frost is visible. 2. Keep the refrigerator door closed during long meal prep. 3. Clean the door gasket with mild soapy water. 4. One breaker reset is fine. 5. Book us if the code keeps returning.
The coil area is cold and damp, which can loosen or corrode a plug. The board then sees values that jump. We clean or replace the connection and test the sensor itself.
For a short time, yes. Left alone, defrost can go wrong and ice can build. Booking a visit soon usually keeps it a small connection repair instead of a frost cleanup.
We look at both evaporator sensors on the Classic BI while we are there, since they share the same board. You approve a written price before any work.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
