Classic BI units, among them the BI-36U/S and BI-36UFD/S, use 35-R-33 when the refrigerator evaporator fan runs below its speed setting. This fan circulates cold air across the fresh food evaporator. When it slows, the fresh food section warms, produce may wilt, and you might hear a softer or uneven whir near the back of the compartment. The freezer is usually fine because it has its own system.
1. Move items away from the back wall of the fresh food section. 2. Check for frost on the back panel and mention it when you call. 3. Keep doors closed to let the unit recover. 4. Use a thermometer in the middle shelf to track temperature.
Classic BI units run separate cooling systems for each compartment. 35-R-33 relates only to the refrigerator evaporator fan, so the freezer side keeps working while fresh food warms.
Watch the fresh food temperature. If it stays at or below 40 degrees, you can wait a little. Above that, move perishables to a cooler and call us.
We check fan speed and inspect for frost. You approve a written price before any part is ordered, and our 30-day workmanship warranty covers the repair once the fan runs at full speed again.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
