On legacy Sub-Zero 600 Series units such as the 650/F and 690, and on 700 Series, 736 and IC-27 models including the 736TCI, EC 40 with a flashing Service light means excessive freezer compressor run. Causes include a door left ajar, a sealed system issue, a fan or a temperature sensor. On the 648PRO, the same number refers to excessive compressor run in a zone. You may see a warmer freezer, frost, or the Service light flashing.
1) Push the freezer door or drawer firmly shut and check the gasket for gaps. 2) Brush dust from the grille opening. 3) Read the freezer temperature on the display. 4) If it is close to normal, press and hold the bell key for 15 seconds to clear EC 40. 5) Book a visit if the Service light flashes again.
Yes. On 600 Series, 700 Series, 736 and IC-27 units, EC 40 and code 40 both mean the freezer compressor has run excessively, and the flashing Service light accompanies it.
Yes. When freezer temperatures are near normal, hold the bell key for 15 seconds. If the code and Service light return, the cause is still there and needs a technician.
