Sub-Zero 561 Freezer Frost and Noisy Fan Repair
A 561 is an older built-in from the 500 Series, with a dairy compartment of one section and one egg tray, and two crisper drawers. It gives you little feedback of its own, so we judge it by what we see and hear inside.
Frost in the freezer is the call we hear most. It generally means humid air is entering, often past a worn door seal, rather than a defrost system that needs replacing, so we test the seal and the defrost operation before recommending parts. A new whir or rattle from behind the rear panel points us to the fan, and a crisper that will not seal after being pushed home just needs its slides squared up.
Parts can generally still be ordered; legacy items just take longer to arrive.
Most often it is humid air getting in around a worn seal. We check the gasket and door alignment first, then test defrost operation if the seal is sound.
It is not usually an emergency, but a fan that suddenly sounds different can be wearing out. Having it looked at early avoids a bigger repair later.
The drawer has probably moved out of square on its slides. That prevents a tight seal, and we correct it by adjusting or replacing the worn slide parts.
