Sub-Zero Appliance Repair in Texas City, TX

Texas City began after Minnesota investors spotted a deepwater harbor during an 1891 duck hunt, and refinery towers still define its skyline. Behind a 23-foot seawall, Sub-Zero units run in postwar houses and newer subdivisions alike.

We repair Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezers, wine storage and ice makers across Texas City, inside and outside the levee. Book online or by phone, and tell us if a night-shift sleeper needs an afternoon slot.

01Neighborhood brief

What Texas City homes change about a Sub-Zero repair

Local housing, power events, water conditions, and installation styles all affect how we approach Sub-Zero diagnostics here.

Housing

A port boom and a wave of postwar houses

Surveyors recorded the first town plat in 1893, and incorporation followed in 1911 while the port and refineries expanded. Between 1950 and 1960 the population nearly doubled, from 16,620 to 32,065, leaving a large stock of postwar homes.

Postwar kitchens were not built for a full-size built-in, so a Sub-Zero in one usually arrived with a remodel and new cabinetry. We check the anti-tip anchor and the water line routing, two shortcuts we often find in those projects.

Water

Home of the Mackey treatment plant

The Thomas S. Mackey plant that treats Brazos River water for much of the county stands in Texas City. It first served only Texas City, with room to treat 18 million gallons daily, and the city still buys its water there.

Because the supply is treated surface water, a Sub-Zero ice maker here rarely clogs from sediment. Slow or hollow cubes usually point to an expired filter or a weak inlet valve, which we test on site.

Weather & power

Inside the seawall, still in damp Gulf air

Hurricane Carla in 1961 led the city to build a seawall 23 feet high, completed in 1985, plus an inner levee of eight feet along Moses Lake with its own pump stations. Those defenses keep surge out, but they do nothing about the damp, salty air that settles over the city every day.

Garage refrigerators and freezers soak up that moisture, and their door gaskets stiffen and leak sooner. When frost builds near the door or the cabinet sweats on the outside, we test the seal and the anti-sweat heater.

Typical installs

Tight postwar kitchens, garage freezers

Postwar houses usually have tight kitchens, and an attached garage often holds the overflow. Newer homes are more likely to have counter-depth refrigeration built into the cabinets.

In a tight kitchen a Sub-Zero door may strike a wall or island if the hinge side was planned poorly. We can adjust the door stops and check that the unit still seals properly at its limited swing.

We reach Texas City from I-45 or Highway 146 and book it on the next-day loop for the county mainland. Refinery towers and the port make good landmarks, but the street address and nearest cross street are what we really need. Let us know if a family member sleeps during the day after night work, and the visit goes into an afternoon window with a phone call instead of the doorbell.

Garages here stay damp, and a freezer kept in one works against humidity as well as heat. If the freezer frosts heavily within days of a defrost, we check the gasket, the defrost heater and the drain. If water pools under the unit from a cracked supply line, shut the valve and call a plumber for the house side of the line.

04Texas City questions
We work nights. Can the technician come in the afternoon?

Yes. Mention it when booking and we look for an afternoon window. The technician can also phone or text on arrival instead of ringing the bell.

Our garage freezer sweats on the outside in summer. Is that a problem?

Some sweating happens in very humid air, but heavy beads near the door often mean a worn gasket. We test the seal and the anti-sweat heater and you get the part price before we install anything.

Can you repair an older Sub-Zero built-in?

In most cases, provided parts can still be ordered. Send the serial and model numbers on the plate inside the unit, and we check parts supply before the visit.
