Code 15-C-01 on a legacy Sub-Zero Designer Wine (IW) unit, for example an IW-30R or IW-18, means the AC condenser fan relay is stuck closed. The relay should switch the condenser fan off when the compressor rests; instead it keeps the fan powered all the time. Cooling usually continues, but the fan runs nonstop, you may hear constant airflow at the grille, and the display shows 15 C 01.
1. Make sure the grille is clean and unobstructed. 2. Note whether the fan noise ever stops. 3. Cut power at the breaker for a minute and turn it back on. 4. Book a technician if the code reappears. 5. Leave the area around the toe kick open so warm air can escape while the fan keeps running.
Less urgent than a code that stops cooling, since the fan runs too much rather than too little. Still, nonstop running wears the fan, so plan service in the near term.
The fan relay will not open, so the condenser fan never gets the signal to stop. The constant hum at the grille is the direct result.
Replacing the stuck relay or the board that drives it, depending on what testing shows. You approve a written price first, and our workmanship is covered for 30 days.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
