If your IW Designer Wine unit, such as an IW-24 or IW-18, shows 40-2-00, Sub-Zero means the zone 2 stepper current is outside its expected range. The board drives the zone 2 stepper motor to control cooling there and checks the current as it does. When the reading is wrong, the board flags it, zone 2 may not hold its setting, and 40 2 00 is displayed.
1. Write down the zone 2 temperature and setting. 2. Limit door openings on zone 2. 3. Do one power reset from the breaker. 4. If the code returns, request service. 5. Keep a simple log of the zone 2 reading each morning and evening so we can see which way it drifts.
Each zone has its own stepper on these units, so 40-2-00 concerns only the zone 2 motor and its circuit. The other zones keep working on their own motors.
It depends where the stepper stopped. Zone 2 might run warm or cold, so check it now and then until the repair. A thermometer on a shelf makes that easy.
We test the zone 2 stepper current, harness and board driver, then replace or repair the part responsible. A written price comes first, and the work has a 30-day warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
