Sub-Zero UW-24 Wine Code EC 15: sealed system problem

What EC 15 means

Undercounter Wine Storage models like the UW-24 and UW-24/S, as well as the Classic BW-30, use EC 15 to report a sealed system problem. The control has seen that the refrigeration loop (compressor, refrigerant and coils) is not cooling the way it should. This is not a door or sensor alarm. Most owners see the wine slowly warming in all zones, the compressor running constantly or not at all, and the code returning after resets.

Common causes of EC 15

A refrigerant leak that reduces cooling
A restriction in the sealed system
A compressor that does not pump properly
A start or power problem that prevents the compressor from running

✓ One safe check you can try

1. Check that the unit has power and the light works. 2. Clear the grille so the condenser can breathe. 3. Feel near the grille for warm air; note if none comes out. 4. Reset at the breaker once after one minute. 5. If EC 15 returns, move valuable bottles and schedule service.

Is EC 15 always a major repair?

Not always. Sometimes a start or power issue keeps the compressor from running and is fixed quickly. If there is a leak or restriction, the repair is larger, and we explain the options first.

Does EC 15 mean the same on my BW-30?

Yes. The BW-30 uses the same meaning. We test the sealed system the same way on either model. Leak checks, pressure readings and compressor tests are identical on the Classic built-in and the undercounter unit.
